About Sanzo Wada

Sanzo Wada was a Japanese artist, art teacher, fashion and kimono designer, costume designer and influential colour researcher. His interest in the systematic study of colour led him to establish the organisation that would later become the Japan Color Research Institute. His work helped lay the foundations for modern colour research in Japan and continues to inspire designers and artists today.

Choose from two volumes:

Volume 1 
The original volume brings together348 colour combinations developed by Wada and originally published in his six-volume colour studyHaishoku Soukan in 1933–1934. An extensive and beautifully presented reference for discovering unexpected relationships between colours.

Volume 2 
The second volume draws on two further works by Wada from the 1930s and presents237 additional colour combinations. These include 72 combinations inspired by the Japanese seasons and 165 drawn from areas such as fashion, interior and graphic design.
