"Kappan" : (Japanese) printing or typography.
Letterpress products, handprinted in our printing studio using vintage typographical presses. Colours are printed one at a time.
Our two oldest presses were made in the 1880's and some of our wood type is from the same era. In these days of computerised perfection, these clunky, oily and worn machines produce printed images and texts that look and feel unique.
Some of our more contemporary cards (those designed by Aude, for example) are printed using modern polymer resin plates (on old presses). Our vintage style ones are usually printed off cuts, for example vintage catalogue or book illustrations from the 19th or early 20th centuries and either wood or lead type that has to be set by hand on the press.
Letterpress printing is a very satisfying, but time consuming craft. Charles already has to run Nomado Store and design products, so he prints when he has spare time, when the presses are working properly and especially when he finds inspiration. Because of this, our cards are only produced in very small quantities and are by definition limited editions.
