SOUKI is a small Japanese sock factory founded in 1927 in Koryo Town, Nara Prefecture.
ai amu is Souki's special indigo-dyed collection. In Japan, indigo dye is known as ai-zome. The dye is extracted from polygonum, a species of flowering plant related to buckwheat. Ai-zome is a strong dyeing process.
ai amu indigo products are hand dyed repeatedly to achieve a subtle colour gradation.
Souki use vintage looms to produce their creations, a lengthy process which produces textiles that have a softness and texture unachievable by mass-production. ai amu is an exceptional collection combining Japanese craftsmanship and traditional materials.
