Letterpress printing in Japan began in earnest after 1870, following the abolition of the feudal domains and the establishment of prefectures following the Meiji restoration.The current company's predecessor, Kikumoto Printing Company, was founded by the current owner’s grandfather in 1933, but records show that the Hirountan Printing Company was founded in 1883 in Kashiwara-cho (present-day Kashiwara-cho, Tamba City).
They aim for "texture" over "beauty," and "taste" over "uniformity." And so, in order to "print taste”, they strive to introduce a human touch in the printing process.
