Explore two of Japan’s most iconic cities through origami with these colourful paper books designed by Japanese design duo COCHAE.

Each edition contains 24 illustrated origami designs inspired by the culture, food, landmarks and everyday life of either Kyoto or Tokyo. The printed patterns become part of the finished object as you fold, giving traditional Japanese origami a playful and contemporary character.

About COCHAE

COCHAE is a Japanese design duo founded by Yousuke Jikuhara and Miki Takeda. They are known for bringing a fresh graphic approach to traditional forms of play and paper craft, particularly origami. Their work combines Japanese culture, bold illustration and a sense of humour, making familiar traditions accessible to both children and adults.

Choose from two designs:

Kyoto
Inspired by the traditions and atmosphere of Kyoto, this edition includes motifs such as maiko, Daimonji, Kyoto vegetables, matcha ice cream, yōkai, temples and wagashi sweets.

Tokyo
A colourful portrait of Tokyo combining contemporary city life with references to old Edo. Designs include Tokyo Tower, sumo wrestlers, the Yamanote Line, tuna inspired by Tsukiji, the Ueno Zoo panda and a traditional sentō bathhouse.

The finished pieces can be displayed, given as small gifts or simply enjoyed as a creative paper project. These books are a fun introduction to Japanese paper folding and an original gift for anyone interested in Japan, illustration and paper craft.
