Akashiya Shitajiki Standard size felt underlay with anti-slip

Standard size calligraphy or sumi-e underlay. 

The felt is wrinkle-resistant and has an anti-slip backing, so it won't slip even when you apply pressure.

A must-have accessory for brush calligraphy, Sumi-e (ink painting) and Gansai (watercolour).

A Shitajiki(下敷き, "under-sheet") is used under a sheet of Japanese paper to provide a better surface for writing or painting by evening the pressure on the paper and helping avoid staining the work surface. They are usually referred to aspencil boardsin English.

Shitajikifor brush calligraphyare typically made of dark felt.

We recommend using a bunchin (paperweight) to hold the sheet of paper on the shitijaki.
