    A lightweight water-repellent Japanese furoshiki featuring playful cats and balls of yarn, designed by Japanese artist duo kata kata for MUSUBI.

    The illustration captures something immediately familiar to anyone who lives with a cat: the irresistible attraction of a rolling ball of yarn. The cats play, chase and become tangled in the thread, creating a lively pattern in kata kata’s characteristic warm and humorous style. MUSUBI describes the soft colour palette and playful movement as an expression of the cats’ endless curiosity.

    kata kata is the Japanese artist duo Takeshi Matsunaga and Chie Takai. Their work is rooted in traditional Japanese textile techniques including katazome stencil dyeing and chusen dyeing, which they reinterpret through expressive illustrations of animals, plants and everyday scenes.

    Part of MUSUBI’s Aqua Drop collection, this furoshiki is made from lightweight polyester with a water-repellent finish. It is especially practical to keep in your everyday bag for unexpected rainy days: use it to cover belongings, wrap a wet umbrella or quickly create an extra bag when you need one.

    How to use

    At approximately 70 × 70 cm, it can be tied into a small reusable shopping bag, used to wrap everyday belongings or carried as an emergency bag when travelling or shopping. MUSUBI specifically recommends this size as a compact eco-bag.

    The water-repellent fabric makes it particularly useful when it rains. It can be used to wrap an umbrella, protect belongings from sudden rain, or carry damp sportswear. It can also serve as a small leisure sheet or table covering outdoors.

    When you're finished, simply fold it away again: the thin fabric takes up very little room in a handbag or backpack.

    Care

    • Washable and reusable
    • Do not use fabric softener or bleach, as these can reduce the water-repellent performance
    • If the water repellency decreases over time, ironing the surface at medium temperature can help restore it
