MUSUBI × COCHAE – Furoshiki 70 cm – Japanese Folktales - The Mountains Green

A colourful Japanese organic cotton furoshiki inspired by traditional folktales set in the mountains, designed by COCHAE for MUSUBI.

The Mountains Green brings together characters and scenes from 13 traditional Japanese folktales connected to mountains and the countryside. Rather than focusing on a single story, COCHAE fills the cloth with a lively collection of characters to discover, each illustrated with the design unit’s characteristic humour and playful expressions.

The illustration is designed to change depending on how and in which direction the furoshiki is folded and tied, allowing different characters and stories to appear on the wrapped object. You can also simply spread the cloth out and enjoy searching for the different figures hidden throughout the design.

At 70 × 70 cm, this furoshiki offers more wrapping possibilities than the smaller 48 cm COCHAE series, while the lightweight organic cotton remains soft and easy to fold.

COCHAE is a Japanese design unit founded in 2003 and known for its concept of “playful design”. Their work explores origami, toys, packaging and everyday objects, often offering a contemporary and interactive way to discover Japanese traditions.

How to use

Use it as a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth for gift boxes, books, bottles and everyday belongings, or knot the corners to transform it into a small reusable bag.

Try changing the direction of the fold to bring different folktale characters to the front. The detailed illustration also makes the furoshiki enjoyable to spread out and explore, especially with children.

When not in use, it folds flat, takes up very little space and can be reused again and again.
