MYOKAIKOU,The Fifty-Three Cats
This caricature compares the 53 Stops on the Tokaido Highway to the behaviour of cats. Utagawa Kuniyoshi, an ukiyoe artist of the Edo period, was known for his love of cats, and there is an anecdote that he painted this picture with a cat in his pocket.

In typical Japanese wabi-sabi fashion, these waxed covers will collect marks and scratches with use, each one will become unique.
